Kinga Winnicka, PhD / Genealogical Services / Genetic Genealogy
About me
Hello!
My name is Kinga Winnicka
and I research the past.
I graduated from the University of Wrocław, Poland where I completed my PhD in archaeology in 2021. Currently, since 2025, I work as a research assistant professor at the University of Warsaw, Poland.
I have been conducting genealogical research for over 10 years now. I reconstruct the past from incomplete and scattered evidence, and every conclusion is grounded in records.
I specialise in genetic genealogy, identifying an unknown parent, grandparent or ancestor from DNA test results. I work to research standards: matches and shared segments analysed in detail, reconstructed pedigrees and conclusions verified against archival records.
Genealogy is my passion, so I approach every project individually, dedicating as much time and attention as necessary to thoroughly examine sources and create a detailed family tree.
I work with a limited number of clients at a time to ensure the highest quality of service.
I specialise in genealogical research in Central and Eastern Europe, with a focus on Poland and the former eastern borderlands, including present-day Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania.
The term Genealożka is the feminine form of the Polish word for genealogist (genealog in the masculine form). In Polish, professions and roles often have gendered forms, with the suffix -ka commonly added to create the feminine version of masculine nouns.
What I offer
- Building family trees
- Verifying existing trees (audit of a MyHeritage, Ancestry, etc. tree)
- Archival research
- Analysis of historical records
- DNA analysis (genetic genealogy)
- General consultations on genealogy and family history

A short call about what you need (15–20 minutes, free of charge)
By phone or online (WhatsApp, Zoom). You tell me what you are looking for; I tell you whether and how I can help, which sources are likely to matter and what order of workload to expect.
Assessment (paid, usually 3–10 hours)
I check which sources survive and are accessible, draft an outline of the tree or – if you already have a tree or a DNA test – prepare a tree audit or a preliminary review of your DNA results. You receive a short report with recommended next steps.
Quote
Based on the assessment I send you a quote: the scope of stage one, the estimated hours and a maximum budget. I start once you accept it.
Research (usually in stages)
Database searches, archival enquiries, reading and translating records, building the tree, DNA analysis.
Every stage has an agreed budget. Before it is reached, I let you know and wait for your decision – I never work beyond the agreed amount without your consent.
After each stage: a meeting to go through the findings, a breakdown of the hours and an invoice.
Completing the project
A final report, the tree (digital and print-ready) and the records found. We go through it by email, by phone, online or in person.
How long does it take?
- Consultation: up to 3 hours
- Focused project (one family line, a specific record, one family mystery): up to 15 hours
- Project in stages (several lines, DNA cases, research requiring travel): from about fifteen to around 100 hours, in stages of 10–20 hours
How to estimate the workload
What counts is the number of direct ancestors, not everyone in the tree – five generations back means at most 62 ancestors. Each one takes about an hour on average; collateral lines and difficult sources add time, while gaps in surviving records cut it short.
From a completed project:
170 people in the family tree | 45 ancestors | 110 original documents = 40 hours of work
just under an hour per ancestor – about €16 / $18 per record found, analysis and report included
€45 / $50 per hour
Family trees, tree verification, archival research, consultations
€55 / $60 per hour
Genetic genealogy – DNA analysis and identifying unknown relatives, DNA consultations
